What Do Bed Bug Bites Look Like? Blood Spots on Sheets & Other Signs of Bed Bugs in Bee Cave, TX

|

Bed bugs are a surprising and unwanted guest you may have drop by your home at any time and want to stay for good. Bed bugs are easily spread, especially if you have families and friends visiting or staying in your home. Bed bugs are often referred to as “hitchhikers” as they spread by climbing into bags, backpacks, and clothing. When bed bugs invade a home they will leave signs of their presence. A-Tex Pest Management will share the common signs of bed bugs in the home.

What Do Bed Bug Bites Look Like?

Bed bugs don’t infest a home in large numbers. Often only a few will make it into the home which makes detection early on difficult. However, one of the first early signs is unknown bug bites upon waking up in the morning. While other bugs can bite you in your sleep, bed bugs leave distinct bug bites. Bed bug bites are often formed in clusters or in a straight line. Bed bug bites also leave a red swelling bump and then pancakes out. Bed bugs will also feed or bite the parts of the skin that is usually exposed and easiest to feed on.

Fresh Blood Stains on Bedding Caused By Bed Bugs

Small red or brownish spots or stains on the sheets, blankets and other bedding is another early warning sign that there are bed bugs in your home. These spots or stains are caused by bed bug droppings or a bed bug got squashed right after they fed. A bed bug’s abdomen will become engorged with blood. Should you roll over on top of them, they can burst to leave little red spots on the bedding. Bed bug spots may also be found in other areas such as on the mattress, carpet or on curtains. Bed bugs will leave their droppings where they like to hide during the day.

Can You See Bed Bugs with the Human Eye?

When bed bug numbers increase, you may begin to see bed bugs themselves. When physical signs begin to occur this indicates a major infestation and the situation will grow more intense. Bug bites can become unbearable as their numbers increase. The bed bug is easily identified as they are a flat, oval-shaped bug that is no bigger than an apple seed. Adult bed bugs are brown in color, while the nymphs and eggs are yellowish and transparent.

Musty Bed Bug Smell

Another sign that there is a major infestation in the home is the presence of a musty odor. As the bed bug population increases, you will begin to smell a musty odor which they release to help find each other. It is believed the bed bug scent gland that releases the odor helps bed bugs find each other for mating. Others suggest it is for communication of good feeding sites. Either way, your home will develop a musty smell stronger in the area that bed bugs are clustering together.
