Why Are There So Many Swarming Bees & Aggressive Wasps Right Now in the Fall in Taylor, TX?

|

Much of the state is still seeing several warm days mixed in with the colder ones. When these warm days come, you may notice that some pests are more prevalent than others. Stinging pests in particular are often more active in the fall months than they are even in the summer. There are a couple of good reasons for this. A-Tex Pest Management is here to talk about wasps and bees and why you may be seeing more of them before winter hits.

Wasp & Bee Activity in the Fall

During the summer, did you notice too many wasps and bees trying to bother you? You probably didn’t notice them nearly as much as you are noticing them now. They are usually less active in the summer and busy elsewhere. However, when the cooler evenings start to roll around and a reprieve from the hot temps that summertime brings, they all seem to come out of the woodwork. Following are a few reasons you may see this happen.
– Bee & Wasp Population: During the spring and the summer, bees and wasps are still trying to build up their populations. They are just starting out in the spring and will slowly build throughout the spring and summer. By the time fall hits, they have reached the max of their population and will be sending out foragers to find food to get them by through the fall and winter months.
– Stinging Insect Defense: During the fall, they are working to prepare their queen and the nest for winter. This will make them more defensive of their hive. If they feel you are a threat, they will likely attack.
– Bee & Wasps Food Supply: It’s no secret that during the fall, all of the flowers and plants are starting to show signs of dormancy. Small insects like ants and small flies are starting to grow fewer and fewer as well. These are the main food sources for stinging pests. During the fall, they still need to load up on sugars and carbohydrates to get ready for the winter though. This is why you may see them turn to your food at your last BBQs of the season more now than ever before.

Identification of Stinging Insect Hive or Nest

The best and most efficient way to locate the source of the problem with stinging pests is to watch them. You will see them flying to and from their nests. If they are entering your home somewhere, there is likely a nest that they are trying to get to.
