Poisonous & Venomous Black Widow & Brown Recluse Spiders in Austin TX

|

Austin is home to many different types of insects and pests. Some spiders in Austin actually assist in the insect population. While most of these spiders live outdoors, some linger inside but are rarely seen. However, there are only two types of spiders that can do serious harm to the residents of Austin and they are the Black Widow and the Brown Recluse. Many people get scared at the sight of any species of a spider due to their sometimes terrifying appearance or the manner in which they can leap or crawl across a floor or wall. A phobia of spiders is very common among Austin citizens. It is most important that you become familiar with these two species of spiders as they can do harm to you and your family.

Black Widow Spider Bites

The black widow is a large black spider. The female is much larger than the male and she can be identified by the red colored hourglass shape that sits on her abdomen. Black widows are not usually seen crawling around houses or up walls because they prefer to live out in areas that humans do not come into contact with often. Some of the areas include attics, crawls spaces and eaves. While the black widow is not aggressive, she will bite when she feels threatened. Unfortunately, this can happen if you reach your hand into a shadowed area searching for something where the black widow is hiding.

Brown Recluse Spider Bite Stages

The brown recluse spider can be identified by its peculiar shaped symbol that sits on its thorax and resembles that of a violin. The brown recluse can look terrifying if you have a chance to glance upon it closely (which is not recommended) as it has six dark black eyes. The brown recluse, like the black widow, is not an aggressive spider unless it feels threatened, at which time it will attack and bite.
