|

Isn’t it everyone’s worst nightmare to find that you have bed bugs in your home? This invasive pest can make you feel uncomfortable every time you get into your bed. The one relieving thing that you should always remember is that bed bugs don’t transmit any diseases from one host to another. However, disease or not, nobody wants bugs in their bed. This is why A-Tex Pest Management is here to share the signs that come with bed bugs are present in your home, so you can take the steps necessary to get rid of them.

Waking Up with Bug Bites

If you have an extremely uncomfortable night and then wake up to find that you have your arms and legs covered in red, itchy bites, it could be a bed bug problem. These bites are flat, red and usually in some sort of pattern on your body as the bed bugs work to get their next meal. Because they are the most active at night and are hiding out during the day, it can make for a miserable night when you are dealing with an infestation. Bites are usually found on your arms and legs because these are the parts of your body that are generally not covered with clothing while you are sleeping. If you are seeing bites around the lower legs and ankles, you could be dealing with different insect-like fleas or chiggers.

Seeing Bed Bugs

While you may not easily see the bugs themselves due to the fact that they are hiding while you are awake, you may still catch a glimpse of them. During the course of a bed bug’s life, they grow and mature. As this happens, they shed their skin as it changes. You may notice bits and pieces of this exoskeleton on your bed as they have morphed into a more mature version of themselves rather than seeing the bug itself. Another thing that you may start to notice in your bed is blood. After they have finished eating, they will often leave a small mark of blood. Many people don’t notice these marks until much later and so they tend to be rust-colored rather than a dark red stain.

Bed Bug Smell

Many people don’t realize that when you have a bed bug infestation on your hands, you can actually smell it. When there is a large number of them, they will emit a musty odor that is hard to miss. This may smell like wet towels. If you notice this smell in your home, you may want to start inspecting your room.
